  Kitchen Tips
Want to make a warming dish?
Use a dash of chili in dishes. Chili powder has rusty red color, which is usually a mix of ground chiles, along with herbs and spices, such as garlic, cumin, coriander,, cloves and oregano. Chili powder will keep for one year in the cupboard and up to two years when stored in the refrigerator.

Need an extra bit of elbow grease in opening the lid of a jar?
Place a thick rubber band around the lid and grab the lid to open. The rubber band will provide the extra tracking between the metal and your hand.

Over-seasoned a dish?
Too salty?
Do not use the potato – its ability to calm down dishes that are too salty is a kitchen myth! Instead, use a bit of sugar or maple syrup.

Too sweet?
Acidic items, such as lemon or vinegar, tend to cut down on both too-salty and too-sweet dishes. A dash of cayenne pepper will also mask the sweetness.

Too spicy?
Add something with a little fat, such as butter, or something sweet, such as peanut butter or honey.

Oatmeal tastes dull but don’t want to use sugar?
Mix in two table spoons of non-dairy reduced sugar or sugar-free whipped cream to a hot bowl of oatmeal.

Want to cut down on your sugar?
Use cottage cheese instead of yogurt in your diet.
