Dear Mommy
By Amanda G.

Please tell me a story
A sweet, loving fairytale
About how my life would have been …

What would I have looked like, mommy?
Would I have been a cute, chubby baby
With soft curly hair and big brown eyes?
Would my voice be as soft as rain?
How would you have felt
When I gripped your finger for the first time?

Would I have been a silly little girl, mommy?
And would I have a funny dance to call my own?
Would I have copied your every action?
Would I have made you laugh?

Would you be the one to carefully let go of me
As I took my first wobbly steps?
Would your name be my first word?
When I fall, you would be the one to kiss my knee,
Right, mommy?
And would my daddy be around?

What would I have enjoyed?
Would I have loved the arts and the theater?
Would I have loved to travel the world?

Mom, would I have found the love of my life?
And if I became pregnant, would I let my child live?

Please mommy,
Tell me a story
A sweet, loving fairytale
Of how my life would have been
If you had given my life a chance.

Mommy, they only called me “fetus”
and refused to acknowledge my life
But mommy, what would my real name have been?

Why did you not want me mommy?
Did you not love me?

I know it has been years since you gave me up, but
Do you still think of me?
Oh, I hope you do.

I will love you, mommy, forever,
Even though you chose not to love me in return.

Oh how I look to the day when I will see you again.
Tell me, mommy, will you love me then?

Love, your baby girl,
