Saint
Therese of the Child Jesus |
 |
|
Saint Therese of the
Child Jesus, born in Alencon, France, was the ninth
child of a mother who had wanted to be a saint and a
father who had wanted to be monk. The five of the nine
children that survived were all daughters.
Brought up in a home of
faith
Therese of the Child Jesus showed her vocation early
in her life. She was educated by the Benedictines. At fifteen she
was admitted to the Carmelite Convent at Lisieux, where
two of her sisters were already admitted. Saint Therese
of the Child Jesus preferred the anonymity of the
cloister. She never went on missions; never founded a
religious order, never performed great works.

In the brief 24
years that she lived on this earth, her graces
touched the lives of so many. She was devoted to
simplicity and in the service of God accomplishment
of small duties. She is better known as the Little
Flower of Jesus.
28 years after her death, the public demand was so
great that Saint Therese of the Child Jesus was
canonized.

Prayer in Honor of
Saint
Therese of the Child Jesus the Little Flower
(Feast – October 3) |
|
|
I GREET YOU, Saint
Therese
Of the Child Jesus, Lily of purity,
Ornament and glory of Christianity!
I salute you, great saint,
Seraph of Divine Love.
I rejoice at the favors our Blessed Lord Jesus
Has liberally bestowed on you.
In humility and confidence
I entreat you to help me,
For I know that God has given you
Charity and pity as well as power. |
Oh then, behold my
distress,
My anxiety, my fears.
Oh, tell him now my wants.
One sigh from you will crown my success,
Will fill me with joy.
Remember your promise to do good on earth.
Obtain for me from God
The graces of our Divine Lord,
(especially …state your petition)
Amen. |

atypical art works. Entries are
generally based on the 1926-38 edition
of Butler's Lives of the Saints, with
the length of each entry varying from
one-half page to several pages. Short
entries giving written insight into the
lives of pious individuals are combined
with depictions rendered by artists such
as Raphael and El Greco. An inexpensive
tribute to art and faith more
appropriate for gift-giving than for
libraries. |
